Frequently asked questions
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet (and sometimes the hands or face) that correspond to different parts of the body. It is a holistic therapy that works alongside, not instead of, medical care. It aims to support the body’s natural healing process, by reducing stress and tension, aiding sleep and increasing overall wellbeing.
At your first session, I’ll begin with a short consultation to understand your health history, lifestyle and any areas of concern. You’ll then relax on a reclinable chair, fully-clothed except for your feet. I’ll use specific techniques to work on reflex points across your feet, including relaxation techniques, adjusting pressure as needed. Afterwards we'll review how you are feeling, any areas of sensitivity and discuss a treatment plan bespoke to your needs. This includes aftercare advice to get the most out of your treatment. Most people find the experience deeply relaxing and restorative.
At subsequent sessions, we'll review any changes to your health and wellbeing, and reconfirm priorities to ensure you the treatment is focused to your unique needs.
Many clients report feeling more relaxed, sleeping better and experiencing reduced tension or discomfort. While there are few available scientific studies specifically into how reflexology works, the Association of Reflexologists states that there are scientific studies that support the potential positive effects that can be achieved by reflexology and touch. If you're intrigued, I'd recommend that you just give it a try!
Reflexology doesn’t diagnose or cure, but it can be a valuable complementary therapy for conditions such as stress, migraines, PMS, fertility challenges, menopausal symptoms, IBS and muscular tension. It’s particularly helpful for managing stress-related symptoms that disrupt body processes and supporting better sleep.
This depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people feel the benefit after just a couple of sessions, while others find regular treatments offer the best results. A course of 6 to 12 weekly sessions is recommended to alter body ecology for long-term benefit, followed by monthly maintenance treatments. I will discuss a bespoke treatment plan for you following your first treatment.
Reflexology is suitable for most people, including children, older adults, and during pregnancy (after the first trimester). Each treatment is tailored to you, and I’ll always adapt the session to ensure it’s safe and appropriate for your circumstances.
It’s not recommended if you have any undiagnosed pain or certain conditions like deep vein thrombosis or contagious infections. Please contact me if unsure.
After a treatment, you might feel sleepy or experience temporary symptoms such as a runny nose, headache or feeling emotional - these are positive signs that your body is bringing itself back into balance and usually passes within 24-48 hours.
